Blog Post #3: Research Gap

I found that there is a gap in research analyzing the content of music notation software manuals and instructional material. There is a lack of knowledge and on the unique challenges that music notation software pose to professional and technical writers. More specifically, there is a gap in whether the already established principles of effective technical communication apply in the same way, because it has not been tested or explored in depth (an empirical gap as well as a practical gap).

  1. Hi Rusty,

I think your blog #3 suggests great possibilities for research on music notation software manuals from a rhetorical standpoint. After reading your Lit. Review writing assignment, I really like your idea of trying to see if you can propose something that might explore further the unique challenges of the software to professional and technical writers -- of course, these data would probably substantiate your sources' claims with more insights and reflections on this topic.

As a PTW scholar, l really LOVE your topic. =)) And upon execution of your research design/method, I can confidently say that such a rhetorical angle should be a welcome addition to our field. Whether you realize it or not, I believe you've established a good opening/edge here to pursue your topic all the more. Am looking forward to chatting with you more about your proposal.

    Best,
    Dr. B
